A Rhino for Ryno

This cake was for a boy named Ryan who is nicknamed Ryno.  He asked for a Rhinoceros cake for his birthday.  Given the amount of servings needed I decided to just make the head of a rhino for the cake.  This one was a challenge!  I used a black rhino as my example and you can see the rhino has a pointed lip just like the real deal.  I know that real rhino horns are not 'ivory color' but I didn't have the heart to cover them completely with gray (so, so much gray!!) so I just dusted them with some gray and brown to mute down the ivory a bit.    This cake was carved by hand and covered completely in modeling chocolate then dusted with petal dusts to bring out the wrinkles.  The cake inside was red velvet.  The eyes were gumballs I colored black with food coloring markers.  I think everyone was pleased with the end result.

Tennis Anyone?

This cake was for my fake cousin Angie.  Her husband, my fake cousin Alan asked me to make it for her birthday and we surprised her with it.  She loves tennis so of course her cake had to be tennis related.  This was modeled off of her actual Wilson tennis racket.  This cake was covered, not in fondant, but modeling chocolate.  This is a new medium that I've been learning about.  The chocolate is a little less tolerant of temperature changes but it's way better tasting.  The tennis balls are sugar cookies covered in buttercream and then a layer of modeling chocolate.

Ice Cream Birthday Theme

This cake was made for a girl's birthday party.  The ice cream cone, scoops and cherry are all hand made from gumpaste.  I loved the colors on this one.  I think it turned out pretty well!

Bachelorette Party

I made some cookies featuring some special 'nightie' wear.  Cookies were made in buttercream icing !
