Geaux Tigers!

This was a cake that I made for a friend's father in law.  He is a huge LSU Tiger's fan.  She found a picture that we used as a guide.  He was thrilled with the result.  My only caveat was I told her she had to say an Aggie made it for him.  :)

Deja Vu all over again

A friend at work requested a cake just like the ones she'd seen on my blog!! How exciting to have someone like what I'd made enough to want it for their party too.  These cakes were for her children's birthday party.  For him, a baseball cake complete with glove, bat and ball and logos from his baseball team on the bat and ball.  For her, a cake for a princess complete with jewels, flowers and a pretty bow.  Everything was edible!!

BRAVE

This cake was for a young girl's birthday party with a 'Brave' theme.  I was shown a few examples of styles of cakes she'd like..and went from there.  I was given the characters to use on the cake which helped a lot too!  I've never tried creating a 'landscape' on a cake before but I was happy with my first attempt.  I think my customer was happy too. This cake was decorated mostly in buttercream with a few fondant accent pieces.  I hand crafted the name and painted it gold to match the gold 'buckle' around the center.

Cat Box

This is the original design I used as a guide. NOT MY WORK.
Maybe in a past life, I was an art counterfeiter.  ; )   I am getting pretty good at duplicating designs that others bring to me.  Maybe not 100% but it's close!  Don't get me wrong, I love the challenge and it keeps me from having heartburn about expectations of a perfect design from me. And whenever possible I try to make the design as much in buttercream as I can as well.   Here was a cute Hello Kitty cake that my customer found that I was able to duplicate for her daughter's first birthday.  We tried to keep as close to the original as we could, but we had to go bigger to ensure we had enough cake to feed everyone.  The hardest part was finding a box big enough to put it in for the ride to the party!!  The very cute original photo is also included so you can judge for yourself if I've captured the essence of the HK cake request.

Family Wedding

We attended a wedding in July for a cousin and I was asked to make the wedding cake.  This has to be the largest job I've undertaken.  First of all, the cake was to be made in Pennsylvania..away from my home.   The second part was that I was also going to make a groom's cake and lots and lots of cupcakes for the kids that were going to attend.  So, we carted all my cake stuff up to PA and got started.   Since my mother in law only has window units for air conditioning, the entire preparation was a challenge..but we did it.  Thanks to my my nieces and my son for helping me with flower making and especially to my sister in law Vanessa for helping me both with the cakes and with setup when we got to the hall.    The family is in the dairy business, hence the Jersey cow bride and groom.

With this Ring....

This was an engagement cake for a friend's brother.  I was asked to incorporate some of the bride-to-be's actual ring design into the cake.  The idea for the cake was to make it look like a 'ring box'.  I used several techniques I've learned on this cake including, airbrushing the ring silver and making a decorative stencil on the box using icing.  The cake itself was made from alternating chocolate and white cake layers with a chocolate ganache in between the layers.    The 'lid' of the box was made from rice crispy treats and covered in icing.

Ooooooooooooohh Toooooooooooooooooooooooodles!!

I love the Mickey Mouse playhouse show so when I was asked to make a Toodles cake for Miss Baylen's 2nd birthday, I was all in!!  This cake was super fun to make.  I made it  a personal challenge to use only buttercream decorations.  I think it turned out pretty awesome..even if I do say so myself.  :)  And did I mention this was a MOUNTAIN of cake?  This was a big 12 in bottom and 2, 6 inch double layer cakes!!
